One Year On - Examining The Record - Part 2

Following my examination of the records of the Senators over this last year, taking on their own interpretations of what they have achieved, I'm now looking at the Constables.

As you might have guessed, this post will be much shorter than the others.

It is well known that the Constables contribute very little to States proceedings. All the statistics demonstrate this and anyone who denies it is issuing a politically motivated lie.

They make up almost 25% of the States and are not responsible for anything close to 25% of the questions, speeches or propositions.

I am totally against paying States Members different amounts, however the Constables presence in the States makes me question that point of view. They all admit in their contributions how much work they dedicate to their Parishes. That work is supposed to be honorary and all their honorary colleagues do not get paid for it. Yet they receive a wage for being States Members, despite dedicated much more time to the Parishes.

The time when the Constables cease to be ex officio members of the States cannot come soon enough.

I suspect that once the issue of the Bailiff in the States has been dealt with (will happen shortly after the next election I believe) it will pave the way for sorting out the Constables. That will be in time for the 2022 election.

Although that's just a prediction, don't hold me to it!

Here are the high/lowlights -

Being chair of both PPC and the Comité des Connétables has led the weird situation where Len has had occasions where he has had to write letters to himself in different capacities. I'm not making that up. Bizarre.

I don't agree when he says we have made progress on reform of the States. The substantive issues have not yet been debated. We've only held consultations with States Members in which many of them have demonstrated how utterly clueless and conflicted they are.

Some members genuinely believe that apportionment of Deputies should be done based on voter turn out, instead of population. You just can't reason with people like this.

Thankfully he and his colleagues are dealing with dog mess though. Thank goodness the big issues are being dealt with.

What exactly does Simon get for being so complementary about a Chief Minister who hasn't actually done a single damn thing for St Helier yet?

He's singing his praises for saying he'll support St Helier and will get the States to pay Parish Rates, yet nothing has tangibly changed yet.

Save your praise until positive change actually occurs. Until then it just looks weird.

The Future of St Helier group has demonstrated to me that it simply wants to tinker round the edges without any serious consideration about giving St Helier itself the powers and responsibilities it needs to deal with the issues we face ourselves without being told what we can and can't do by a Chief Minister from St Ouen and a Planning Minister from St Martin.

Lisa Simpson: You promised to take us to the lake.
Homer Simpson: I promise you kids lots of things. That's what makes me such a good father!
Lisa Simpson: Actually, keeping promises would make you a good father.
Homer Simpson: No, that would make me a great father.

I copy John Refault's statement for one reason only.

He mentions at the end that he is looking forward to his Parish senior citizens Christmas lunch.

Refault voted to abolish the Pensioners Christmas Bonus and next week will be voting against Reform Jersey's proposition to reinstate it on a means tested basis so poor pensioners still get it.

I hope they give him an absolute earful at the Christmas lunch. He deserves nothing less.

Having said that, I have nothing else to add to any other Constable's statement as very few of them actually attempt to answer the question they were asked.

Coming soon - St Helier Deputies.

  1. Interesting question. Why do you think this post hasn't prompted any comment ?

Okay If I may rephrase the question. Why do you think this is ?

  5. Haworth the troll is busy attacking all and sundry with the collusion of the JEP on its website again after his Christmas bresk. Most of his rants have nothing to do with the subjects at hand. A classic example being his old obsession of falsely trying to portray Geoff Southern and Shona Pitman as having committed 'electoratal fraud' when he knows they only helped elderly and disabled persons to register to get a postal vote. This gem is within a story on data protection law changes and sustainability. Why oh why does Mr Haworth pursue these sad and deluded obsessions I have to ask? Didn't he recently even have a ridiculous and vexacious complaint to PPC about you thrown out Sam?

    1. The funniest thing about the workshy troll's attacks is that he attacks Rico Sorda's profession and the Pitmans being made bankrupt yet the troll lost his own job after his being outed and convicted for death threats and harassment. Hasn't worked since just sponges off the wife and taxpayer. Loser par excellence.

  6. If the only people attacking you are Jonathan Jon Troll, the Wobbly Witch and Paper Klik Mik you must be doing something right.

  7. Ally King, Graham73, Mediator, Unhappy, Petal... These are just a selection of the Trollogarchy fake accounts in just one story on the happy to oblige JEP. No wonder our Sharrock H Troll has no time to get a job?

  8. Add S2 to the list of Haworth troll's avatars. In overdrive on the Filthy Rag hate fest for abuse apologists.

    1. Yes I have read it. These cowardly on line bullies need to be put inside. You might think that if he had a brain he would have learnt from his harassment conviction and hounding Rico Sorda's poor wife.

    2. I haven't seen Trevor's statement, is it available online? I'm sure we'd all like to see more examples of the sick things Howarth has said and done, given that he is determined to continue terrorising these people as the Care Inquiry continues.

His comments on the JEP website are disgusting, but not even half as bad as the one he sent to me on the this blog last night.

  10. Can't believe reform on States agenda again. If we are cutting numbers then essential to have voter equity and that means one type of States Member. What do you think?

    1. Agreed. There is no logical reason to have more than one category of member.

I find it depressing that so many people seem to believe the number of members is the problem. It isn't. It's the distribution of them.

Whatever is on the JEP website is free speech so get used to it, and get used to it permanently.

    4. What is on the JEP is the property of the JEP website as they are moderators. What you do is bully people over and over again on here with childish slurs and insults when it's the JEP who owns the legal title to all the comments you cannot cope with. A Witch, we all know who you mean and its greasy kids stuff. You carry on bullying people online because that's what Syvret did.

  13. Sam, as a States Deputy I think it would be very appropriate if you highlighted the slanderous abuse decent people are suffering on the Jersey Evening Post website from the disgusting troll. That the JEP leave it up shows they approve. The JEP ought to be banned from the States press box and the space given to Voiceforchldren. I should do some screen grabs if I was you. Everyone knows who posts the slurs and Filthy abuse under the names Graham73 and AllyKing and it is the cowardly Stalker of Rico Sorda's wife Jon H.

  15. Sounds to me like Anonymous at 15.14 has his own reasons to hate the JEP and Broadlands. People are allowed an opinion and when you insult a person you believe to have those opinions then it's an attempt to bully them to shut up. The comments about Mr Hayworth on here are disgraceful.

    1. If you are quicker to criticise someone who objects to others attacking victims of child abuse and a man who has just had a stroke than you are the person who says those things in the first place, then you're a disgusting human being in my book.

Get off my blog Jon and go seek help.

    2. Well said Deputy. Without this sick bully the JEP would barely get a single anti-Harper, Reform, Pitman's or Syvret comment at all. Sounds like this troll really needs psychiatric help or at least a job.

    3. The Muppet is even going on about one of his old chestnuts this being that all of those standing up against child abuse haven't got children apparently so shouldn't be doing this. What an absolute nutjob. LH has kids, Deputy Higgins has kids, Francis Le Gresley has kids etcetera. Bonkers. What would worry me would be a father of kids writing this type of gobbledegook. You would just have to worry that Social Services should be called. Is he fit to look after them? Plus all this time spent on political blogs posting his bile and he doesn't even vote!

Jon, since you're an avid reader of my blog I know you'll see this - throw your computer away. You're a danger to yourself and others so long as you constantly take part in all this nonsense. Just throw it away and go and sort your life out.

What is Reform Jersey's position on today's threat of strike action from members of UNITE and does the Party support strike action?

But "hey" if you are willing to focus on politics in the JEP website instead of all the infantile and often hateful anti Reform, Pitmans, Harper and Syvret hokkum that would be a good thing for democracy all-round. let's party!

    4. Strikes are a matter for the members of Unite to democratically determine and Reform Jersey will respect the decision they make.

Strikes are bad. They cause disruption, the workers don't get paid and it causes bad relations. We believe that the government should stop being so arrogant and actually engage with their employees to find mutually beneficial solutions to the problems all parties are faced with and treat each other with respect.

If the government refuses to respect their workers, then they are responsible for any strike which goes ahead.

This struck me as a deeply worrying development. It is clearly a direct attack on Mark Proudfoot, and an abuse of Mezec's position in the States.
Clearly Mezec has no idea what hate speech actually is, to state or imply that it something Mark is guilty of. A stand against rushing refugees into Jersey is not hate speech. Incitement to harm or kill others is. The most recent example of hate speech I have seen is from Sarah Richard, threatening to nail something she calls a 'shitpuffin' to the door of one of the regularly posting female active members (unspecified) of this group. That is intimidation which is an offence. A glance at the IQ18/ARSE tells me Ms Richard thinks this is funny and she and others all want to be on the 'naughty list' given to the police. I hope she'll still be amused when she gets herself arrested which is beginning to look inevitable now at the rate she is going...
It is also interesting that Mezec seems to believe that individuals do not have the right to boycott certain buisinesses... This is deeply ironic from somebody who has stated his intention to set up a Jersey Branch of the BDS - Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions - a group whose long term aim is to bring down the State of Israel. He is getting close to being an early candidate for the law against hate speech himself, especially given the offence he caused last year to our Jewish community.
His rag tag Ruin Jersey party has also stated their aim to actively campaign against Susie Pinel in St Clement before the next election. How is that not a campaign to make people boycott something? As usual, his small mind doesn't recognise that he is doing precisely something he says others shouldn't be allowed to do. Is he the world's worst hypocrite, or does he think he's above the laws he wants applied to others? This has been an enigma to me since his astonishing support of the anti cyber abuse legislation given he is one of the nastiest bullies on social media.
